The New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) relies on the generosity of volunteers, student interns, and pro bono attorneys to provide legal services to low income immigrants in New Mexico. As one of New Mexico’s only providers of immigration-related legal aid to low-income immigrants facing deportation, your support of NMILC promotes justice by ensuring that we are able to educate and assist individuals who would otherwise be unable to exercise their rights. NMILC’s work enables immigrants to stabilize and advance their immigration status so that they can work, go to school, stay healthy and contribute fully to their New Mexican communities for generations to come.

Become A Pro Bono Attorney

NMILC welcomes interested attorneys to handle cases on a pro bono basis. We seek to maximize our impact by partnering with attorneys who wish to donate their time to assist our clients. We partner with experienced immigration law practitioners who donate their time at legal fairs and workshops. Our attorneys also mentor attorneys who may have no immigration law experience to assist us with specific cases. We especially need assistance in representing youth who have been abandoned, neglected, or abused to apply for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.

NMILC screens all cases extensively to ensure that only those who are legally eligible for the immigration benefit sought and those with the fewest private resources enter NMILC’s program and are referred for pro bono representation to attorneys and firms who generously donate their time and expertise.

Please contact our Legal Director, Eva Eitzen, at eeitzen[at]nmilc[dot]org if you are an attorney interested in assisting us.

NMILC would not function without the help of our volunteers. NMILC offers internships to law students and undergraduates to work in a variety of legal services programs. The internships are an excellent opportunity to learn more about U.S. immigration law and policy while making a difference in the lives of low-income individuals in need of legal representation. We also welcome other community members who would like to volunteer their time and expertise.
