Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a 2012 program enacted by President Obama that allows young immigrants that came to the country as children to receive a work permit and protection from deportation, renewable every two years.
The Trump Administration announced the termination of DACA in September 2017, but two federal judges have put forward injunctions that require the government to continue accepting DACA renewals.
On April 25, a federal judge gave the administration 90 days to justify ending DACA. If the administration fails to make its case, they will be forced to accept new DACA applications. In the meantime, only DACA renewals are being accepted—anyone who had previously been granted DACA is eligible to renew. The administration is NOT accepting any new DACA applications at this time, only renewals.
