At NMILC, our goal is to make high-quality legal representation accessible to low-income immigrant communities. Thanks to grants, donors, and our pro bono attorneys, we never have to charge our clients.

NMILC does not normally help with family or employment-based petitions, but will always do an intake/screening to give advice.

Holistic Victim Services

NMILC provides holistic and trauma-informed legal services to immigrant survivors of crimes living in New Mexico, and to survivors living in two of New Mexico’s immigrant detention centers. We know that the stability that a path to citizenship provides is an important aspect of breaking the cycles of abuse in our communities. Learn More

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

SIJS allows any immigrant child, before they turn 18 or 21 (depending on the case), who has been abandoned, abused, or neglected by a parent to apply for special status which can lead to permanent residency and eventually citizenship—which opens many doors for their futures. Learn More

Citizenship & Residency Renewals

Obtaining citizenship is vital for the immigrant community as it brings greater protection from deportation, more economic security, opportunities to petition family members, and the ability to vote in all elections. But the application process and requirements can be a huge challenge. Learn More

DACA & DACA Renewals

Our team is excited to once again begin helping first-time, low income, eligible candidates fill out their initial DACA application, while continuing to assist current recipients with permit renewals. Learn More

Asylum Seekers

We provide free pro se assistance to individuals seeking asylum: a form of immigration relief that can lead to citizenship for people fleeing persecution. Occasionally, we can offer full representation in these cases.  Learn More

Detention Programs

The specifics of our detention and deportation defense work may vary from year to year, but our core values remain the same: provide empowering legal information and assistance to detainees and asylum seekers, advocate for detainee and asylum seekers’ rights, and fight for the abolition of dehumanizing and incarcerating immigration systems.  Learn More
