Stories from Detention

Each week, NMILC staff visit asylum seekers detained in civil immigration custody at one of the three ICE detention facilities in New Mexico. Often, the people we meet with tell us their stories. Rarely, if ever, are their stories positive ones. Rather, they describe dire situations where they suffer through poor conditions, lack of medical care, racism, psychological abuse and substandard nutrition.

This page serves as a repository for the experiences these asylum seekers go through just to get a chance at a better life in the U.S.
