NMILC Bids Farewell to Adriel Orozco and Welcomes Back Executive Director Jennifer Landau

Dear friends,

I hope that you and your loved ones are well during these times. I am writing to share with you some bittersweet changes at the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC). Adriel Orozco, NMILC’s passionate and dedicated Executive Director, decided to step down from his position and transitioned out of the organization at the end of June. Given the changed political climate and his passion for immigrant rights, he has decided to refocus his career on policy advocacy. Adriel’s creativity, energy and leadership will be missed, but we know that he will continue to advocate for the immigrant community whatever direction his journey takes him. Co-founder and former Deputy Director, Jennifer Landau, stepped in as Executive Director at the start of July.

Jenny co-founded NMILC in 2010 and previously served as its Executive Director. Jenny’s leadership will ensure that NMILC continues its mission to provide equity and justice to our immigrant communities through free legal services, education and advocacy.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, our team has pivoted and adjusted to ensure that NMILC continues to fulfill its commitment to provide high quality legal services and effective advocacy for the immigrant community in our state. Thanks to the amazing work and perseverance of our staff and leadership, we have been able to continue to do just that.

As we move forward, we ask for your continued support for our work. With the new federal administration, our neighbors and friends have more opportunities to apply for immigration relief and to bring a sense of stability to their families. The immigration system, however, continues to be stacked against them. NMILC will continue to advocate for inclusive immigration policies at every turn. The Board is confident that Jenny and our amazing staff, now numbering over 30 individuals, will be able to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at monilyanna@gmail.com or Jenny at jlandau@nmilc.org.

Adelante,
