Volunteer Spotlight on Ona Porter
Our September volunteer spotlight is on a longtime pro bono volunteer, Ona Porter, Founder Emeritus and Clean Energy Leader of Prosperity Works. Ona is also a founding member of the La Red del Río Abajo, a collaboration of ten non-profit organizations that have agreed to work together to promote safe, healthy, and economically secure families and communities in Albuquerque’s South Valley. NMILC is a proud partner of La Red del Río Abajo, and has worked alongside Ona and other community organizations to bring necessary resources to an area of Albuquerque that is often under-resourced.
“I think we always need to understand the variety of people who are suffering from bad policy, and how to address their needs, and that leads to a root cause analysis that one needs to make to change the system.” - Ona Porter
Ona is also training for a “riding for justice” century bike ride to raise funds for the NMILC. Her goal is to raise $10,000 to continue funding our work to give back to New Mexico’s immigrant communities. We are honored to highlight the amazing dedication of Ona and her will and strength to embark on this goal she has set for herself on behalf of social justice. Thank you for all you do for our most vulnerable communities!
