Maricruz was born in San Fernando, California and moved to Albuquerque in 1994. Immigration hits personally for Maricruz because her parents are both Mexican immigrants. Maricruz was the first in her family to graduate college with an Associate of Science (AS) Criminal Justice Studies degree. She began her career as a Clerk/Legal Assistant back in 2015 where she fell in love with immigration paralegal work after seeing how her help eased the struggles and long waits of many immigrants in our community face. Now in her sixth year as a Legal Assistant, Maricruz enjoys witnessing the success and life changing stories of the clients she has helped. She is passionate to continue helping the immigrant community which is why she chose to join the NMILC team. In her free time, Maricruz enjoys traveling down to Mexico, where she is able to experience the culture and traditions her parents had when growing up.
