Ximena Altamirano Garcia serves as a Justice Fellow for the Children’s Program at the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC), where she provides legal representation to unaccompanied children. Ximena is dedicated to advocating for the rights of vulnerable populations.
She earned her law degree from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2024, where she was actively involved in the immigration clinic as a certified student attorney. During her studies, she completed internships at a private immigration law firm in Albuquerque and at the Fort Snelling Immigration Court. Prior to law school, Ximena worked at an immigration law firm, assisting individuals and families with applications before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Ximena’s commitment to immigration law is deeply rooted in her life experiences as an immigrant from Guanajuato, Mexico. Her relocation to the U.S. at the age of ten sparked her passion for social justice and advocacy for communities of color. As a Justice Fellow, Ximena is eager to further her mission of promoting equity and access to legal representation for marginalized groups through her work at NMILC
