Carla Law

Intake Specialist

Carla Law first joined the NM Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) as an administrative volunteer in 2020. She was later hired as an Intake Specialist in 2021 with a focus on rural communities in New Mexico. Today, Carla works as NMILC’s Partnerships Coordinator by establishing and nurturing positive collaborative relationships with other community-based organizations.

Prior to her role at NMILC, Carla was a Staff Assistant and Intern Coordinator in the U.S. House of Representatives where she worked directly with the immigrant communities in NM’s 1st Congressional District. After her role in the House, Carla became an intern in the U.S. Senate where she created a series of policy development workshops for other undergraduate students in the state of New Mexico.

Carla is a first-generation graduate from the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in Political Science and History. During her time at UNM, Carla served as Chapter President of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Executive Volunteer Chair for the Asian American Student Association (AASA), and Student Board Member for the Asian American Pacific Islander Resource Center (AAPIRC) Establishment Committee. These roles allowed Carla the opportunity to serve the immigrant populations in Albuquerque, NM.

As the daughter of Mexican and Chinese immigrants, Carla is empathetic to the lived experiences of all immigrant families and hopes to continue to empower communities like her own in their fights for justice. In addition to her passion for community service, Carla enjoys spending time with family as the “cool aunt” to her many nieces and nephews. Carla is also an avid reader, professional chismosa, and amateur makeup artist.
