Trump Administration’s Xenophobic Title 42 Regulation Continues to Inhibit Asylum & Immigration at U.S. Borders
Since March 2020, Title 42 has been used by our federal government to turn away asylum seekers and migrants at both our northern and southern border. Section 265 of U.S. Code Title 42 permits the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to deny entrance into the United States to individuals that the Director believes are high risk of introducing a communicable disease into the country. It also allows any customs agency to enforce the regulation.
“It is one of the most xenophobic attacks on asylum and immigration by the Trump Administration…and the worst part is…it continues to be in place,” says Emma Khan, our Detention and Asylum Program Coordinator. “We demand that the Biden Administration revoke this xenophobic policy!”
