Volunteer Spotlight: Evelyn Perez

Evelyn Perez is NMILC’s Volunteer Spotlight for the month of July. She has been helping at the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center since the start of June as a summer intern. Evelyn works closely with our Volunteer and Development Coordinator, Delaney Swink, and helps with U visa cases by updating client information.

Evelyn joined our team through the Junior Mentorship Program. She is interested in pursuing a career in immigration law and hopes her internship will help her gain experience. Evelyn also hopes to expand her knowledge on different immigration topics to gain a better understanding of the work our lawyers do at the NMILC. Evelyn describes her experience working at NMILC as an exciting opportunity and likes the staff comradery and work environment.

“I really feel like I am making a difference. I am learning more about immigration politics everyday, especially about the barriers immigrants are facing under this pandemic. It definitely makes me more interested in pursuing a career in the immigration law field.“

We are very lucky and grateful to have amazing interns like Evelyn Perez, who are willing to spend their time and expertise to help us carry out our mission at the NMILC.
