Teague González

Deputy Director of Programs, People and Advocacy

Teague is the Deputy Director of Programs, People and Advocacy at NMILC. She also leads our economic justice work. 

Teague is a movement lawyer with experience in direct legal services, community-led legislative advocacy, administrative advocacy, and impact litigation. She has worked with and supported communities in San Francisco, Oakland, and Miami. Teague was raised on the Texas/Chihuahua frontera in El Paso, Texas and Santa Teresa, New Mexico. She went to college and law school in Northern California. Teague has supported immigrant rights movements since 2004 serving as the National Lawyers Guild (NLG)-San Francisco Bay Area Chapter representative on the Bay Area Immigrant Rights Committee (BAIRC).

As the national law student representative for NLG, Teague traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to support local legal activists in their efforts to open a staffed NLG chapter office to fight immigrant worker exploitation in the wake of disaster recovery efforts. Also, through a program at Centro Legal de la Raza in Oakland, California, Teague supported immigrant bond deportation defense work and successfully represented people for bond release. She is an expert in immigrant eligibility to public benefit and safety net programs, including working to expand program eligibility to community members who are undocumented.

Teague has directly represented and systemically advocated for people experiencing homelessness and incarceration and for families and children living in extreme deep poverty. She has a deep interest in organizational development, mentoring and supporting staff, and developing leadership capacity. Teague is a member of the New Mexico and California State Bars.
